Ramesseum

The temple of Ramses II with the Mammisi in front of it

The construction of the mortuary temple of Ramses II as part of his burial complex took around 20 years. The magnificent temple (known as the "Ramesseum") is located on the west bank of Luxor, and in its time was comparable in size to Abu Simbel and in its architecture to the temple of Medinet Habu. Ramses II is depicted as an eternal deity. The colossal statues of Ramses II that once stood at the entrance are now in ruins, but you can still see parts of them scattered around the temple.
