The Valley of the Queens lies slightly below the Valley of the Kings and comprises 91 tombs in which the wives and close relatives of the pharaonic rulers of the New Kingdom were buried. It is not known who was buried in many of the tombs. Of particular note is the tomb of Nefertari, the wife of Ramesses II, perhaps the most beautiful tomb in Egypt (closed indefinitely since the beginning of 2024).
