Liveaboard on board the M/Y Eclipse

The liveaboard at a glance

The M/Y Eclipse, a high-end safari ship, was launched in Safaga in August 2021. The ship is crafted with plenty of mahogany wood and can accommodate up to 24 guests in twelve comfortable cabins. The M/Y Eclipse offers an extraordinary amount of space: the dining room is 74 m² in size and is located on the main deck. You will find an espresso machine, a fridge, an ice maker and a water and fruit juice dispenser. Delicious international and oriental dishes are served. The food is served buffet style and there is also a corner for a live cooking station.

The salon

There is also a 38 m² lounge on the main deck, which is equipped with upholstered furniture and entertainment electronics. Hot drinks are available around the clock. A second 43 m² lounge, also furnished with upholstered furniture and entertainment electronics, is located on the first upper deck. If a signal is available, you can connect to the on-board Wifi there. The ship's outdoor areas are just as spacious. There is a choice of shaded and furnished areas on the first and second upper deck, some of which are also equipped with sun loungers. The outdoor area on the first upper deck has a bar with ice maker, fridge and water dispenser, as well as a BBQ area, while the outdoor area on the second upper deck has a large Jacuzzi and two bathrooms/WCs. Furthermore, the ship also has a sun deck with loungers.

The first upper deck

To keep the environmental impact as low as possible, no plastic is used on board the M/Y Eclipse. Guests are given a re-usable drinking bottle where they can help themselves to water from the water dispensers. The ship is cleaned both inside and outside with eco-friendly cleaning products and attention is paid to waste separation. The ship also has a modern waste water disposal system.

The cabins

The M/Y Eclipse has ten cabins and two suites. Six cabins are located on the lower deck: four 18 m² cabins are furnished with a double bed and a single bed, while two 12 m² cabins have two single beds that can also be converted into a double bed. Four further 11 m² cabins with single beds, which can also be converted into a double bed, are located on the first upper deck. A 23 m² suite with a double bed and a sofa is located on the first upper deck and the particularly spacious 36 m² master suite, also equipped with a double bed and a sofa, is located on the lower deck. All cabins and suites are air-conditioned and equipped with a mini fridge, a closet, 220 V power sockets, USB sockets and a private bathroom/WC (incl. hairdryer, toiletries, towels and bathrobes). The two suites also have a TV with a movie archive.

The diving operation

The dive deck at the stern offers plenty of space and has a sink as well as a large dive platform for easy access into the water or onto the two 8.5 meter Zodiacs. Cleaning facilities for the equipment are available. There are also two outdoor showers and two bathrooms with shower/WC on the dive deck. Diving is executed with 12 liter aluminum tanks with DIN or INT valves. 15 liter tanks and Nitrox are available for an extra charge. On board the M/Y Eclipse, 3 - 4 dives a day are carried out (two dives on the last day), taking into account the arrival times and the weather.

Date, route & solar eclipse

Embarkation: on 29.07.2027 in Port Ghalib near Marsa Alam.

Disembarkation: on 05.08.2027 in Port Ghalib near Marsa Alam.

Route & solar eclipse: We have planned a St. Johns Tour. On August 2nd, 2027, the day of the solar eclipse of the century, the ship will anchor at a reef system directly along the central line of the totality zone, southeast of Berenice. The length of the total phase there will be an extraordinary 6 minutes & 20 seconds, only three seconds less than the maximum of totality in the desert southeast of the Upper Egyptian city of Luxor. The event will last approximately 2 hours & 45 minutes from the beginning of the partial eclipse.

You have the truly unique opportunity to experience the solar eclipse in combination with an underwater dive, or you can observe this extremely rare phenomenon on the sun deck of the ship.

Eye protection: Observing a solar eclipse without protective filters (solar eclipse glasses) can lead to serious and permanent damage to the eyes, including blindness. HERE you will find expert tips on how to protect your eyes.
