Hotel Al Moudira, a top-class boutique hotel that is one of the most aesthetically pleasing hotels in the Middle East, was built in 2002 on a desert plot with its own water source. The complex, with its 54 accommodations, was renovated in 2021/22 and is the life's work of the cosmopolitan, Lebanese globetrotter Zeina Abu Kheir. The hotel's distinctive Moorish-inspired architecture, beautiful domes and arches are among the outstanding works of London-trained Egyptian architect Olivier Sednaoui. He worked with a team of local master masons to realize a design that combines Middle Eastern architecture and tradition with sustainable building techniques. His architectural brilliance and Mrs. Abu Kheir's ability to collect handcrafted wooden doors, terracotta from the region, painted glass from Alexandria and hand-painted floor tiles from all over Egypt and the region form the basis of the hotel and make Hotel Al Moudira unique. Virtually every corner of the hotel is lovingly and tastefully decorated in oriental style and the attentive and friendly staff spare no effort to ensure that hotel guests have an unforgettable stay.
The Hotel Al Moudira is located on the west bank of the Nile, approximately at the level of the bridge south of Luxor. It is about six kilometers from the banks of the Nile, where the lush green fertile land merges into the desert. The numerous sights on the west bank of the Nile are around 15 kilometers away. Transfers, for example to Luxor, can be booked at reception. Two lovingly restored Mercedes limousines from the 1960s are available to hotel guests for this purpose. The hotel also has its own mooring surrounded by gardens on the west bank, not far from the Valley of the Kings. Nile cruises, Nile crossings, picnics and private tours with lunch and dinner are offered on a beautiful boat. There is a comfortable rest house overlooking the Nile at the jetty, which can also be used for private dinners.
In addition to the accommodation, which is nestled in the beautiful gardens with their fragrant flowers and fruit trees, the hotel has a large pool with loungers and umbrellas, a fitness room and a wonderful spa with hammam and sauna. Marble, hand-painted tiles, antique pools and traditional bathing rituals are part of a modern wellness program that invites you to relax and rejuvenate. The extensive grounds also feature a well-stocked library with a large collection of high-quality books on archaeology, Egypt and the Middle East. Behind the gardens of the Hotel Al Moudira is a small farm with cows, a camel, donkeys, ducks and chickens as well as a vegetable garden that provides a variety of vegetables and flowers for the table. Wifi is available free of charge throughout the complex.
Guests at the Hotel Al Moudira are well catered for in culinary terms. The menu offers a delicious mix of Lebanese, Egyptian and European cuisine, with produce from the hotel's own garden and freshly caught fish every day. The shaded courtyard off the reception is a kind of informal outdoor living room where guests can enjoy breakfast, coffee, lunch, drinks and a casual dinner or just laze around. More formal dining is available in the stylish "Ottoman Hall", which is reminiscent of the reception hall of a magnificent Ottoman palace. This restaurant, with its oriental ambience, is open in the evening. You can also have lunch by the pool in the pavilions of the swimming pool, which is set in a beautiful palm grove, and enjoy drinks and snacks from the "Mashrabiya Bar" with its wood-fired oven and grill. The "Eastern Bar" in the central courtyard is reminiscent of the more glamorous era of Nile travel and is a place of many moods, jazz and rhythm & blues. Delicious cocktails and aperitifs are served among antiques and Ottoman paintings.
Hotel Al Moudira's fifty-four accommodations are grouped around a series of private courtyards surrounded by lush greenery and cooling fountains. All accommodations are individually decorated and furnished but also share common features: all are very spacious, have high vaulted ceilings, hand-painted frescoes, well-appointed, airy bathrooms, antique furniture collected by Mrs. Abu Kheir from all over the Middle East and luxurious king-size beds with the finest Egyptian cotton linen. In addition, all accommodation has air conditioning, a minibar, in-room safe, satellite TV, direct dial telephone and hairdryer. Toiletries and bathrobes or slippers are also included in the price.
There is a choice of standard rooms (30 - 40 m²) and suites in various categories, which differ mainly in size (55 m² - 100 m²). The hotel also offers two-bedroom apartments with a large terrace and spacious garden as well as three villas, one of which has a private pool. One of the villas was originally the private home of Al Moudira founder Zeina Abu Kheir. With five bedrooms (each with its own bathroom), four of which open onto the courtyard, the villas combine the charm of bygone eras with modern luxury. Your own chef and butler will ensure that you enjoy excellent cuisine tailored to your wishes.
